Wine Pairing at The Little Geranium

Wine pairing turns a tasting menu into a complete evening story. At The Little Geranium in La Cala de Mijas, Master Chef Steven Saunders and the team match each course with wines chosen to highlight flavour, texture and balance.

Why pairing matters

A well-matched wine can lift a delicate starter, soften spice or bring acidity to rich sauces. Our pairings are designed course by course, so you taste the food and the wine as one idea rather than two separate choices.

How we build your pairing

Steven draws on decades of Michelin kitchen experience and personal tasting across Spanish and international vineyards. Lighter whites often open the meal, structured reds follow main courses, and a dessert wine closes the evening where the menu allows.

Each wine is selected to suit the dish on the plate that evening. Menus change seasonally, so pairings change too. That keeps the experience fresh for returning guests.

What to expect when you book

  1. Choose a tasting menu length (3 to 9 courses) when you reserve your table.
  2. Tell us about wine preferences, celebrations or dietary needs in your booking message.
  3. On the evening, your waiter introduces each matched wine before the course arrives.
  4. You may skip alcohol or request alternatives. Non-alcoholic pairings can be arranged with notice.

Common questions

Can I order wine pairing with à la carte dining? Yes. Ask your waiter on the evening or mention it when booking. We can recommend by the glass or bottle to suit your chosen dishes.

Do I need to know about wine beforehand? No. The team explains each pour in plain language. Many guests discover a new favourite grape or region during the meal.

When is the restaurant open? Evening service runs Thursday to Saturday from 6pm. See our The Little Geranium homepage for galleries, awards and the latest opening details.

Ready to plan your evening? Make a reservation and ask for wine pairing when you book. We look forward to welcoming you.

Dear Loyal Clients & Friends,

Since Covid struck in March last year we had to close for the most part of 2020. The impact of it, the restrictions enforced, combined with the fact that most of our clients live outside of Spain made our very special business unsustainable to continue. It’s with a very heavy heart from us to have come to the conclusion of closing The Little Geranium, having tried everything to stay open.

We are very proud of our Little Geranium, the impact it made on everyone and receiving multiple awards along the way. In our final full year of operation we were awarded, Contemporary International Restaurant of the Year, Best Luxury Restaurant in Marbella and an Excellence Award for Best International Restaurant in Spain.

It’s been an incredible 5 years and Michele and I thank you all for your loyalty, business and friendship. We will miss you very much but we do have many wonderful memories that will remain with us.
